The Visciola wine is a typical beverage of the Marche region, tipically served with desserts. It is flavored with the Visciola, a small, wild cherry that belongs to the Prunus Cerasus family. Cingoli harbors an excellent production of this wine.
The sour cherries have a dark, red color and a sour taste, they are harvested in the period of June during which they reach the right ripeness. Then they are added to the wine, together with the sugar and left to ferment in the barrels until the moment of filtering and bottling.
The result is a tasting and dessert wine, particularly suitable in combination with dry pastries and other traditional rustic desserts such as ciambellone (another typical dessert of the Marche region) and pies. It is excellent as ice cream topping, but also tasted alone at the end of the meal.
