The construction of the church can be traced back to the early 13th century.

In the 16th and 17th centuries the church belongs to the Confraternity of the Most Holy Sacrament.

Traces of 15th-century frescoes adorn the back wall, now hidden by a semicircular apse. The construction of the pronaus can be traced back to the first half of the 16th century. The outer spur is added in 1599; the apse, the canniccio false ceiling, the pilasters and the frames are traced back to the 19th century.

The church underwent renovation works after the earthquake of 1997.
